The other day, whilst using InSSIDer, I noticed 2 coincident 2.4GHz channels - see attachment - the solid yellow one (on the right) and the dotted brown one almost hidden by it except where the signal drops and returns. This is reflected in the two 2.4 bands on the left above the 5GHz band. (The highlight - shown on the top band in the screenshot - would jump down and highlight the other 2.4 band below it every couple of seconds before jumping back to the band above.)
My guest network is always disabled and my iPhone and laptop only ever find one 2.4 GHz band.
Today, all I see is one 2.4 GHz band and one 5 GHz band, as you'd expect.
According to the InSSIDer user manual a solid line means encrypted, whereas a dotted line means unencrypted.
I'd seen this behaviour a couple of times before and half wondered why (and why there was, in contrast only ever one 5 GHz band) but this time curiosity has got the better of me.
Does anyone know what the second coincident 2.4GHz band is (or was)?
Thanks
Martin
PS InSSIDer 4 is a paid-for version but version 3 is still available on eg TechSpot and I don't suppose the free version will be around for ever so it might be worth grabbing if anyone's interested.
