I see that USB tethering to an Android handset as a modem seems to be supported in the Merlin builds.
There is no mention of iPhones. Can they also be USB tethered and act as a modem?

My carrier is Verizon so the "personal hotspot" is supported on this phone/plan.

I'm fairly certain the iPhone requires iTunes on the computer where you wish to use USB tethering. That obviously won't work on a router.

Apparently DD-WRT has it working for RT-N66U, might need to do some trial and error for AC66U as I didn't see the same build that was mentioned for the RT-N66U available for AC66U. Router database is here, punch in your model number then click on the link and then over to other downloads and go down the list.

Due to Apple going down the lane of proprietary technology (as usual), you need special code to support iPhone tethering. Asuswrt does not support it.
