Router: RT-N66U
Firmware: RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374.40_0
Last time I've tried tethering was about 5-6 months ago with whatever firmware was current at the time and I used FreedomPop Photon device (it uses ClearWire WiMax network and is NOT Android based). I no longer have Photon but it was working with, if I recall correctly, all modem connection fields set to empty.
Today I tried USB tethering with unlocked Moto X android phone (Model 1053, Developer Edition for GSM) running on AT&T GoPhone network. Tethering works fine when I connect it via USB to my desktop PC - the only thing I need to do is enable "USB tethering" under "Tethering & portable hotspot" on the phone. WiFi hotspot works fine too. So it is not the case where provider restricts this functionality.
However, I just couldn't get it working with RT-N66U today. I enabled "Dual WAN", tried switching to 3G/4G but nothing worked.
Is there a guide somewhere on how to get USB tethering working with Android phone and RT-N66U?
