Is it normal for AC68U to get 50Mbs for a local wireless connection?

The broadband is dn100M/up100M tested with a notebook wired directly to the modem resulting 9xM/9xM.

With AC68U (flashed with latest Merlin 41 firmware) , the wifi connection to the same site becomes "52.37 Mb/s 70.53 Mb/s". The test was done next to the router by the same notebook. And the result by an android phone was max around 50M/40M.

So is it normal? There's no way to get the speed close to say 80 or 90Mbs by wifi?

All tests were done with 2.4Ghz.

You need to move to 5 GHZ.

some time ago i did some hdd to hdd tests from LAN to WLAN and was in the neighborhood of 12mb/s or ~96mbit via 40mhz 2.4ghz wireless N300 centrino card. at 20mhz, i believe i topped out around 9.5mb/s or ~75mbit using the same hardware. the AP being an N66R. this was running asuswrt-merlin. tests were from copying 1.5gb movies over SMB, clients were win7 and win8.1.

It's a setup for an office. Coverage range is a major concern even though it's a small office - 3 rooms and two meeting rooms. The router is located in the middle of the common area.

I have 5GHz enabled too but can't seem to see the 5GHz signal with my Thinkpad X61t and mobile phone.. So I can't really test it.

So the above speeds are normal for 2.4GHz for 100M/100M broadband?

It is possible to get higher speeds on the 2.4 GHz channels than you are getting but it depends on how crowded the 2.4 GHz spectrum is where you are.

Here is what I get with the 2.4 GHz connection from the same place as the earlier test which is about two rooms away.

WiFi has its limitations.

Here's a simple math. Link speed ÷ 2 = actual speed (+/- 10%). Your results may vary based on dozen variables.
