Is it possible to allow access to specific mac-addresses only ?

Hi All.
New to all this, but trying to figure out if it is possible to allow access to only a specific list of mac-addresses (think it is called whitelisting). Is is sufficient to set a specific ip-address to a specific mac-address on the client list (and have dhcp turned off), or is something else needed? I'm using version 380.59_0 on an Asus RT-AC87U

Are you thinking of restrict wireless clients to connect to your router, or are you planing to only allow connection from the router out to WWW-mac addresses?

The first is supported in the WLAN section of the router "Wireless MAC filter"

The second: why do this? sounds a lot like something that can never work except if you are planning to set up VPN between two geographic places?

I think so. I want to control which clients in the network, wired and wireless are allowed to access the router. For intance, when time scheduling is on, this is bypassable by changing the mac-address on the computer. I want to be able to say that a computer with a specific mac-address is allowed access. I'm aware that this is not failsafe, ie. just change mac to one which has access;but that would most likely cause problems with duplicates on the net which are more detectable.

If you want to control Internet access to a limited number of computers, of e.g. your kids, allow only their MAC to access and assign them specific password.

They need not know "master" password used by you. So, no point in changing MAC if they do not know the pwd for that MAC.
