I Have an Asus RT-AC86U router that I have no need for so i want to sell it. A potential buyer asked me the following questions but I don't know the answer to the questions. Any help would be appreciated

"Is it a dynamic router and could I connect it to my main router as a second router and have a different IP Address? "

Is the answer to these 2 questions a yes or a no?

Thanks.

Dynamic?

He probably means "does it get a dynamic IP address for the WAN?". In other words, "does it use DHCP?". The answer to that would be "yes".

Or he might mean "does this connect to a cable modem (as opposed to a ADSL/VDSL connection). Again the answer is "yes".

"...could I connect it to my main router as a second router and have a different IP Address?" Yes. EDIT: Assuming he's talking about a different internal (non-public) IP address.

Yes, if the question is, "can I assign a different LAN IP address".

No, if the questions is, "can I assign a different WAN IP address".

Edit: I'm assuming that the modem has a single operating ethernet port that is connected to the primary router in which case the WAN IP address is assigned to the primary router. I'm also assuming that the ISP only allows a single IP address, which is typical for ISPs. Some allow two or more, just depends on which ISP you're with.

No. He is talking about Dynamic Routing. However he can do it with a switch,
2 routers + 1 switch.

No. He is talking about Dynamic Routing.
It would seem an odd thing to ask then. If he's technically competent enough to be asking about RIP, OSFP, etc. then I'd assume he's capable of looking at the router's datasheet for himself, or at least phrasing the question in an unambiguous way.
