Is the 509 still worth looking at ?

New Around Here
I'm after a NAS for the PC's at home, some general office duties for 3 PC's and multimedia streaming (MP3, FLAC, 1080p MKV's etc) to a HTPC.

I'd pretty much decided on the TS439 Pro II (mainly for the WOL support that the 419P seems to lack) but I can get the TS509 Pro for about the same price which would give me an extra bay for future expansion. I know that the 509 is not a current model but the reviews and user comments have been positive and it's still doing well in the charts.

Is there anything that that the newer QNAP's are capable of or support that the 509 does not given my proposed usage, I have read that the 509 does not support jumbo frames but not sure that his would have much impact with my set up ?

I have a TS-459 Pro and debated going to the 5 drive model for that "future expansion". When I came to my senses, I realized that with 4x2TB drives, and the typical growth rate of my data set relative to HDD size growth rate and pricing, I determined that I would probably never use the 5th bay.

I like to try and rotate out drives every 3 years if they are on 24x7 (and my NAS is, because it also runs web server and some other things, so it pretty much never sleeps). Even with only 4TB of usable space (I run RAID6), I determined that within 3 years, I wouldn't outgrow 4TB, and in that timeframe, I'd want to be swapping the entire driveset anyway. In all likelihood, I'd be buying a newer, much more power NAS as well.

Should I outgrow the space prior to my preferred rotate window, I could always reconfig my array to RAID5 and gain 2TB more space.
