Is there a way to turn off an unused band in repeater mode?

New Around Here
Hello All,

I have 2 rtn66u's using Merlin's awesome 378.55 firmware.

One is in AP mode running 5ghz only. The other is in repeater mode.

The problem with the RT running repeater mode is I see no way to kill the 2.4 or 5ghz bands like in AP or Router mode.

I would also like to set receive only on repeater as all connections to the repeater are wired.

Is it possible to accomplish either task via Merlin firmware, possibly via command line?

I prefer the merlin firmware and have no desire to use ddwrt or tomato on the asus, I do want to turn off services I dont need on the repeater and not be forced to transmit a band I'm not producing on the AP.

You can kill either band on the router mode and ap mode of the rt via GUI but I see no way to do this in repeater mode so hoping it is possible via terminal/ssh?

I really prefer Merlin's FW and it looks like this limitation is carried over from stock. I am hoping the actions can be accomplished via SSH/CLI?

Thank you!

You kind of want the repeater to transmit and receive between the base router and the repeater, so that all those connected devices can transmit and receive data...

I'm not sure about that. To clarify I do not want to have an SSID on the repeater, hidden or not. I am sure there is no valid reason to have to transmit both a 5 and 2.4 band on the repeater when I'm not producing a 2.4 signal on the original AP. Got to be unforeseen overlook on stock FW..

all you need to do is change back to router mode, make the change in the wireless > professional then disable the radio.

Then you can change it back to the repeater mode

and if you do not want the signal repeating from the router that's receiving, then you should use bridge mode

eraserhead use only 5GHz in source router (first n66u), but second n66u-repeater retransmit his 5GHz SSID not only to 5GHz, but also to 2.4GHz. I also have this problem, We need switch on/off for radio in repeater mode. ;)

Sounds like you want a bridge, not a repeater.

Thank you. This works for me. I see no reason to disable the transmit now as it is just increasing the range of my original network all over my house which is a good thing. Thank you. I was thinking that mode would take out half my bandwidth for some reason.

all you really need to do is go back to the router mode.
wireless -> professional -> uncheck enable radio
Then switch it back to repeater / bridge mode.
