Is this possible: Merlin firmware, AX86u, use vpn (wireguard) & controld/nextdns as dns

Is this possible?

ProtonVPN using wireguard on router (works fine)

Adding controld DNS (all traffic routed over VPN at this stage) still works fine

Enabling controld redirection for e.g netflix, amazon etc, it starts playing up with e.g. amazon refusing to load mostly but intermittently will load

I found a few guides but they are not relevant as they relate to creating profiles for apple devices
