Hi,

I was close to buy the Synology NAS but I wonder if this is really what I want.

With my Popcorn Hour I want to use the MyiHome UPnP server and related jukeboxes. No problem about that if MyiHome is installed on a Windows-based PC.
Problem is that my PC isn't going to stream contents but my NAS will and I can't install MyiHome server on Synology NAS because it is Linux-based and run on a Marvel processor (not an x86 platform).

So the easy solution is to have a NAS based on windows which accepts seamlessly any windows application (like MyiHome) to be integrated/installed on the NAS as if it was on a PC.

Does such a product exist ?

Maybe you'll tell me it is just a PC!!!

But in this case, do you know any small and quiet PC (whether a laptop or an interesting case) having room for 1, 2 or 4 HDD in 2.5" SATA format and able to run Windows XP (even a light/optimized version) ?

Many thanks

P.S. I should add that buying a NAS means I don't want my PC to run all the time I want to access the contents (otherwise my PC would be the NAS, no need to buy a standalone one)

I have found most nas storage comes at to high of a price. At home I use server 08 and 2 p4 systems for storage. once you mount the network drive its easy to access like any other drive and if your use Ethernet and not wifi you can still have great speeds. if you run out of drive letters you can just start mounting drives in NTFS folders.

A really nice part is you have have the server scan its local drives with any av software and not have to use your system it will cut down on the amount of work your personal system has to do.

if you want a place to store all your media maybe use a IIS server on windows xp just don't have your router pointing to it as a web server or you may get a visit from some not so happy people.

if you like downloading use a torrent program like bittorrent/Utorrent and enable the webUI have it installed on your IIS server and access it with your browser you wont even need a monitor on the system. VNC viewer will also assist with this and a remote connection.

most of us have a older system kicking around put it to good use and save some cash.

Why do you want to stream your media? Why don't you just share your files using NFS? Your Popcorn will see them perfectly.
