Issue with wireless on latest build RT-AC86

New Around Here
I'm having a weird issue with the wireless on build 374.43_2.

I have the 2.4 GHz band running great. But the 5 GHz band is giving me trouble - see screenshots.

No matter what channel, channel bandwidth, or wireless mode I choose, the rate will not go above 54Mbps and it appears that the channel bandwidth is around 10 MHz - is this even possible?

In the InSSIDer screenshot, you can see how wide the bandwidth is - other channels in my area show a thicker block at 20 MHz and 40 MHz.

No matter what I change the settings to, the bandwidth and the rate stay the same. The interesting thing is, if you look at my screenshot from the router, the wireless pop-up shows that the 2.4 GHz band is using 11+9, but inSSIDer shows 11+7. And it shows that the 5 GHz band is using 149+155, but InSSIDer shows it only using 149.

Also on, the 5 GHz wireless settings, I'm unable to choose the extension channel, the only option is Auto on all settings.

This occurs even after reseting the stock settings and a fresh flash. I have not tried the stock firmware yest, but I may give that a try.

Okay, so it's not the build. I tried the previous build, and the stock Asus firmware, clearing NVRAM each time, and using default settings. I cannot get the 5 GHz band to change at all.

Any ideas?

Have you tried disconnecting all usb devices then do a factory reset and reconfigure one thing at a time ?

I have performed a factory reset, and left all settings at default - that made no difference. I did not remove the USB flash drive I have attached - I have it plugged into the USB 2.0 port. Could that be an issue? I read about the issues with USB 3.0 shielding so I avoid using that port.

I have read more then a few posts of people upgrading firmwares and changing certain settings with a usb port plugged in and had strange issues happen. It might be worth a try.

I'm an idiot. I found that the wireless adapter in my laptop is not an a/c card. I thought it was.

I'm going to throw in the correct card and try again.

Thanks for the help Jim, and sorry!
