Ok, I purchased an Asus RT-AC66U this morning for my home. I found a VPN option and configured it to the best of my ability (I am very knowledgeable regarding computers, but I've never used a VPN). I figured that I would be able to access my network drives from my school on my personal laptop. I got the VPN set up on my laptop (MacBook Pro running mountain lion) and it connected and stayed connected while I was on the same network as the router. As a test I put my laptop on my phone's LTE hot spot and tried to connect the VPN again and this time it says the server does not respond.
Currently this is my setup:
Internet---> Bell DSL modem w/ built in router---> ASUS RT-AC66U
The wifi on the bell modem is disabled so I doubt its an issue regarding that.
Like I said I can strip a computer and put it back together blindfolded, but I've never worked with a VPN so any advice is welcomed.
