It's time to move to Netgear?

I switched from Apple Extreme to Netgear to Asus and finally RMerlin firmware a short time later... Not going back anytime soon.

Main reasons for all the switches above? Performance and reliability improvements each time I made a jump.

Nothing I have read here in the forums so far will make me give up the control I have with an RMerlin powered Asus router. No issues in performance or stability either, contrary to what others may report/experience here.

Netgear router hardware isn't even on the radar for me or most of my customers.

Netgear r8000 is why I'm running an Asus RT-AC88U. Random radio shutdowns dropping all cellphone clients onto their carrier data plans just didn't cut it.

Netgear R7800 is the reason why I am running Asus RT86U .
Most router features don't work as intended on R7800. QOS database already abandoned by Qualcomm. No traffic monitor. And if other router features are enabled then everything lags lmao. Netgear's GUI is from 1990's and lags a lot. After using Netgear WNDR3400, R7000 and R7800 I can definitely say that Asus's offering is much more feature rich and works as intended. Unlike Netgear, Asus doesn't abandoned the router after a couple of years .

I just wanted to add that I've run Netgear, Linksys, D-Link and Asus consumer routers and Asus has been the very best for me. As I'm not a fanboy I always research available offerings before I purchase so I can make the best choice and when lightning recently took out my original 88u another 88u replaced it. If the ax88u has been cheaper I would've went there for the quad core cpu.

I have a RT-AX88U here and it has been without issues except one which was solved with installing Merlin. It is a specific issue with Windows 7 and only shows when I use a split tunneling VPN on a Windows 7 PC.
For the rest the router is running without issues at all, WiFi is stable I don't have to reboot it.
I am absolutely not brand loyal but this Asus was the best deal for me considering the options ( I wanted a router with 8 Ethernet ports besides the WAN port).

I stumbled into Asus by accident.

I had one of the earlier version WRT54G routers. That was a very good, problem-free router for many years, until it died.

I bought an ASUS router because the users over at the Linksys forum were complaining about Linksys routers and suggested I get an ASUS instead. [emoji1787]

I like all the analytics stuff in stock ASUS AC88U firmware. And the AIProtection gives me some [weak] sense of security.

I had one of the earlier version WRT54G routers. That was a very good, problem-free router for many years, until it died

I kept mine until my grandson moved in and overwhelmed our 7 Mbps DSL service doing whatever kids do. I then replaced it with an N66U with QoS which allowed my wife to browse the Internet despite my grandson : -)

Use whatever you understand. That's always been my approach. So far, ASUS powered by Merlin FW has never failed me or anyone else I recommended it to.

What's your longest system uptime on your AX88U? My AC88U on stock firmware can run for about 60 days before something odd happens that requires a reboot.

Thanks. We lucked out when it veered away from us so it was just windy like a cold front passing through with clouds and rain. That is why I stay on the inland side of town away from any flood zones which I have done since I moved back to FL. If I move again I plan to try the Atlanta area.

The only products I like from Netgear are their switches. Very reliable and lifetime warranty. As for routers, a properly setup Asus router, any day for me.

I'm very happy with my asus rt-ac66u the stock firmware is nice, Merlin's firmware is better.
I don't much about netgear routers but I'm using netgear vdsl2 modem DM200 which is a great modem. I want to upgrade my router to probably the asus rt-ac66u b1. Netgear routers, imo, are nice but way expensive.

Don't buy into the marketing hype. You don't need a special router for gaming.

Since the days of N600 and the WNDR3700, I've done Netgear, Linksys, Asus, DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Voxel, and Merlin. Netgear makes great hardware but their FW lacks and their support is flat out awful. I really like DD-WRT but once Kong abandoned it, it became much more of a crap shoot because Brain Slayer doesn't test individual platforms like Kong. I moved from the WRT1900AC running DD-WRT to the R7800 running DD-WRT to stay with Kong and even though I tried his OpenWRT build for R7800, it was time for me to go back to something more closely coupled with my hardware.

I tried NG again, same crap as the R7000 and all the issues I had before. Voxel's FW is better but it still lacks a lot because it is built on NG's stripped down codebase.

I'm running Asus hardware now with Merlin's FW and I don't expect I'll be changing any time soon. It's a lot of the functionality of DD-WRT with better HW integration and support.

I have several Netgear switches. It seems like a nit to pick, but the old GS line are the only rear-port switches I can find with amber LEDs for 10/100 autoneg.
