Hello guys,
Just got the RT-AC66U few weeks ago and wanted to know is my JFFS2 settings are set correctly -

JFFS2 Partition = Yes
Format JFFS partition on reboot = No

thanks

Yes of course, but before setting up entware recommended set once " Format JFFS partition on reboot " to Yes ( do not format this part if it not necessary in future )

Hi,

Sometimes you even have to format it twice - at least in the past it was needed.

But then you are fine until the next firmware get's bigger and restructures the Memory: Then you loose the JFFS partition and data and have to start fresh.
Better do a backup of the JFFS content to be able to restore it after a firmware update (or after a wrong delete or change). :D

With kind regards

The first time I installed Merlin build it was on .41 and then I upgraded to .42 with the same settings, that's -
JFFS enable = Yes
Format JFFS on reboot = No
So how and why do I need to backup of the JFFS?

thanks

So I formatted my jffs2 partition without really understanding that i needed to back it up first. My question is how can I fully recover my jffs2 partition now. I've reinstalled the latest stock firmware through the router recovery method by going to the asus page on 192.168.1.1 and uploading it through that way. and aftwards i installed the latest merlin firmware on top of that. Would using this method recovery my jffs2 partition? By the way, I'm using the rt-n66r

Hi,

You deleted (formatted) the JFFS partition, then you installed firmware twice, which again might re-partition the NVRAM. Good job! Now it's sure that the JFFS partition is fully deleted!

Of course you can recover your JFFS partion! But only if you have done A BACKUP BEFORE you deleted it! :(

With kind regards

my exact steps were:
1. format jffs2 partition
2. put router into recovery mode
3. went to the default ip address of the router and entered the most recent stock firmware by asus and installed it. I had to wait like 40 mins exactly until my router came back on to where i could log in to it.
4. then i installed the most recent merlin firmware which was the 374.42 at the time

I'm wondering does installing the stock firmware through the asus recovery mode do more to restore the jffs2 partition then just doing it the normal way, as in installing the stock firmware without going into recovery mode

also, is there any point in backing up my jffs2 partition at this point and please can u explain how this is done. Sorry im a noob with this jffs partition stuff. Im familiar with telnet and how to use it but the ssh thing seemed more difficult

How can there be no way to fix the jffs2 partition if u delete it without a backup? Im sure im not the first person to do this lol.

Isnt the jffs partition supposed to rebuild itself over time

Would there be anything in the system logs to tell if my jffs2 partition was corrupt or not?

Formatting does the same thing as if you had done a full format of a hard disk. So no, once formatted, there's no way to recover anything.

Thank you for answering me lol. So I'm debating going and getting the ac66r from best buy.

Is this router just as good or even better than the rt-n66r with ur firmware installed on it my good sir

and what should i do with the jffs2 partition if i get a new router? just enable it and leave it alone?

Or should I just use my rt-n66r with the jffs2 partition disabled?

u guys had made it sound like i had forever screwed up my jffs2 partition on my n66r router. So is it screwed or not lol. I've had it re-enabled ever since i formatted it.

Oh, and I dont use the jffs2 partition to write any scripts with so i didnt lose any of that kind of stuff by formatting it
