New Around Here
Hello,

I have a small wireless lan. A desktop is setup as a server with file and printer sharing enabled, and I can access the shared folders on the laptops on the lan from this desktop, but I cant access the desktop computer from the laptops.

It is working in one way only! When I try to access the shared folders on the sever/desktop, I get Access Denied contact your network administrator.

Also, I have printers connected to the desktop, and it works fine, but I cant print from the laptops.

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance

You need also to set the security on the shared folders.
In order to allow access to a shared folder you need to do two steps:

1 To share the folder, so that it becomes visible from other computers
2 To allow at least read access for the users to actually use the files

If you use Windows XP, you would do both steps from explorer.
- Right-click on the folder to be shared
- Select "Sharing and Security..."
- Use "Sharing" tab to share the folder (step 1)
- Use "Security" tab to configure permissions to the users (step 2), e.g you may add Everyone and check Full Control or any combination of check boxes

The sharing is something that is expected to be so easy, yet it often is problematic :)
