Leds on an RT-AX86U Pro

Anyone who has an ASUS router may have found that the leds are rather on the bright side.

Since mine is in the main bedroom, I have created something to affix over the leds, reducing their brightness, but also making the ID of each led easier to see.

This is what I have made, using Microsoft Word:

and this is how it looks when on the router:

Personally I just disable the LED's on my RT-AX86U Pro through the GUI. Not sure what Asus (or their manufacturing supplier) were thinking when they used such bright LED's.

Shhh ... The marketing has still not got wind of it ... its a feature ... hold it ... its the built in night light so that you don't stub your toes on the furniture when you wake up in the night to manually reboot the router
;)

I suspected that there must be a reason. Actually, a little light from the dimmed leds on my router is useful if I need to use the toilet in the middle of the night, but even without that, there are quite a few leds scattered around my house, including in the bedrooms and on the stairs, so they can be quite useful as night lights.

You can turn the LEDs off on stock firmware.
Go into AI Mesh (on left side of router screen).
Then on the right side section, click on MANAGEMENT (top right of that section).
Then there is an LEDs on/off button.

If you're using Merlin firmware, there is also an additional setting in the System settings.

But both work by using the button in the AI Mesh section (don't need to use AI Mesh for it to work).

Yes, I knew that. I didn't want to turn them off completely; just make them less bright. My solution seems to have worked, but tonight will be the big test. I did try dimming stickers, but the brand I've purchased before have changed and they aren't as effective as they used to be.

What happened to your RT-AX88U Pro?

I sold my other ASUS router because I was intending to keep using the ISP-supplied FRITZ!Box router and I was offered almost as much as I’d paid for it when I listed it on ebay.

Here’s a few of the reasons why I didn’t want to carry on using the FRITZ!Box:

Daily lockouts from accessing the router; the only way back in was to sign out of Windows on my laptop or reboot my laptop.
No external reset switch on the router.
Automatic updates could only be set by allowing one’s ISP and/or AVM to access the router and no option to set a time of day for updates.
Limited options with the Wi-Fi. For instance, if selecting auto channel for the 5 GHz band, there was no option to exclude DFS channels.
WireGuard VPN only available if registering for an online account with AVM and allowing access to the router via a web address, such as a1yeqrtvejdehcy0.myfritz.net

I purchased the RT-AX86U Pro because it was on special offer on Amazon.
