Hi
Fibre DSL
I'm having a move around and want to move where my modem and router are.
What's more important the distance from the master socket to the modem, or the modem to the router ?
I'm assuming the socket to the modem..
The BT Master socket is at the front of the house.
I have a CAT5 cable running from the krone point in the socket (1 pair), into the dining room and terminated on a CAT5 faceplate. This then plugs into the openreach modem.
From that I have another CAT5 connection to the router which is in my office.
eg:
socket -> CAT5 (1 pair) -> CAT5 faceplate -> modem -> CAT5 -> router
I'm thinking of moving the modem to the master socket so it will be directly plugged in.
Then re using the CAT5 cable that was connecting the modem to the socket and joining that to the cable from the router.
eg:
socket -> modem -> CAT5 -> faceplate -> CAT5 -> router
I'm assuming this should work and the connection could be slightly better as the modem is now connected directly..
Any thoughts ?
