Under tools and other options you have the option to specify where to store the file on a usb storage device or locally.

Under administration in the system tab there is an option for a remote log server. Is it possible to point that to a locally connected usb hard disk?

for a monitoring perspective you want to have those log files stored in a location where you can keep rotating things out. Then when things go haywire you can go back and see who has been messing with your setup assuming they have not been super paranoid in covering their tracks.

alternately one could just write a shell script in the JFFS partition and set a cron job to rotate the files to wherever.

is this a multi-thread post, or just cross posted - seems like I just saw this...

Syslog is protocol-based, it's not file-based. You must point at a server running a syslog server, not to a disk location.
