Hi guys,
I'm trying to improve the speed of my wireless connected desktop. It's got the DWA-556 card based on Atheros 5008 (see related post here: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38559.0 ) . The router is a DIR-655 with FW 1.34EU . Router settings as shown below:
DIR-655 adv. WLAN settings
I'm seeing around 2700KB/s while transferring from a GbE connected device via the DIR-655 over the wireless network. My old Inspiron 1520 laptop (with an Intel 4965 WLAN card) in the exact same position as my desktop (which is on the desk) gets 3MB/s, or about 300KB/s faster. It's also got 3 antennas (built into the monitor).
I'm wondering, can I somehow increase the speed by purchasing 3 of some form of "gain antennas", and attach them either to the router or the DWA-556 of my desktop?
The distance between the router and the desktop is about 30 feet or 10 metres. Here's a sketch:
Cheers,
