Well I got a LSI SAS 84016E controller card off ebay - Called LSI to see what drives are approved. There are none - at least a list does NOT exist for this card/chipset.

The person I spoke to said to use Raid drives (big surprise). She also said to use Seagate - no WD drives firmware problems - No Samsung or Hitachi (she actually laughed when I mentioned them. Said they were considered a joke there because of terrible reliability.

Don't flame me - She said it not me.

That's funny, considering the newer Seagate drives are garbage reliability wise...

I've yet to see a complaint about Hitachi or Samsung. This person doesn't appear to have done much homework.

Ok, Seagate use to be the best and now they have problems? What happened ? Does seagate just private label maxtor drives now as seagate?

I mean, how do you go from being the best to being horrible so quickly?

I'm not saying they're bad drives. There was just a period of time in the... 7200.12 series I believe it was, when people were experiencing high volumes of drive failure. This problem has pretty much disappeared, but it's left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
