Mac Address Filtering

Small Home network, using Linksys e2000 with two PC's one HD TV, and one Blu Ray all hard-wired with e2000 Wireless turned off.

Will be adding one Laptop and one Kindle with both using using wireless connection.

Plan to set Wireless security to WPA2 Personal.

Anything else I should do, and do I gain/lose anything by setting up MAC address filter?

WPA2 is your best defense.

MAC filtering can't hurt, but it's too easy for someone who knows what their doing to simply clone a MAC they see is allowed (this can be sniffed out of the air, or obtained by looking at NIC properties) and get past it - this might also be frustrating later on when you need to add a new device.

IMHO, doing both is nice, but not really any "more secure" just "more maintenance"

Mac filtering

MAC Filtering only slows down someone trying to make a Wireless connections to your network. Does not protect your network from a direct Ethernet connection.

Maintenance of MAC filtering requires time. On dual band routers you need to have a list for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

Like they said, MAC filtering is really only useful to stop people and/or devices from ACCIDENTALLY connecting to your network without permission.

Really NOT worth the time setting up.
