New Around Here
Hi
I have an asus router RT-AC87R and I am using the asus ddns resolution to access the samba share on the external hard drive connected to the router.

It seems ddns resolution is not working from my mac running OS X Yosemite

If I try to access the router share using ip address, it works fine but using xxx.asuscomm.com does not work for some reason

nslookup returns this when using the ddns name
Server: 192.168.1.1
Address: 192.168.1.1#53

I also tried pinging it but for some reason it actually went out to my WAN ip

My windows machine does not have this kind of issue so I am at a loss what to do.
Thanks for any help

This is perfectly normal, the DDNS is for remote (WAN) access, not for local LAN access.
