Anyone else seeing this while browsing this forum logged in... it pops up and smells like an ad... like click bait:

I've never seen it. Could it be related to a browser plugin?

i sometimes get that on other sites as i use a public exit vpn. Never had on this site, with or without public vpn. Firefox browser LTS current and Firefox browser current for IOS 17.7

@thiggins ?

Never seen that. Looking at the domain it looks like a phishing site etc. Do you have any suspicious looking plugin installed in your browser? I would highly recommend clearing browser cache too.

In reality, enabling notifications from Securedjointnetwork.co.in signs up the user to receive a barrage of adult content, fake antivirus alerts, gambling and casino ads, and other malicious pop-ups. These unwanted notifications will continue to appear on the desktop even after closing the browser.

Thanks... I think that's it.

******
  • Compromised Advertising Networks – Cybercriminals pay to show malicious Securedjointnetwork.co.in ads on legitimate ad platforms, redirecting users without consent.
  • Malvertising Campaigns – Scammers purchase ad traffic and redirect to Securedjointnetwork.co.in landing pages. These ads are displayed on many reputable sites.
  • snip
  • Affiliate Networks – Other scam sites and shady advertisers sign up to promote Securedjointnetwork.co.in for a share of the profits.
By compromising ad platforms and legitimate websites, attackers can display Securedjointnetwork.co.in ads to millions of users without raising red flags.

I'm using Edge, no-plugins/extensions... cleared the cache a few days ago when sitting down to review the bazillion settings MS keeps pushing on us. I have not selected it... safe computing practiced here. They popup like the ads popup... only on this website!!! These 'ads' open a new window in the browser while browsing this website only!

These started with the latest slate of ads on this forum... I think the forum ads are to blame and the new owner. I'll poke around here and let you know if I discover anything... I'm confident my machine is not compromised.

Started when ads that look like this started:

Crappy ads, crappy website. Really, what's the point of this website with this crap being foisted on users. I'm not going to participate in scamming people. Shut it down already.

Asuswrt-Merlin should move to another website... this site will not improve. If it could have, it would have already.

@OzarkEdge There is no "new owner" of SNBForums. Ads pay the bills and I try to keep them to a minimum and generally don't allow pop-ups and other obnoxious ad formats commonly found on many other sites. So if there is a pop-up, whether legit or not, it should be reported to me so that I'm aware of it.

Tim Higgins, Mr. SmallNetBuilder no more...:

Your website has been and is full of pop-up ads and some are phishing malware.

Make sure you distinguish SmallNetBuilder (the website with reviews) from SNBForums (these forums). The former is what has a new owner (for quite some time already), and whatever ads they serve there isn't under thiggins' control.

That's a good point. I thought he was referring to this site, since he is advising you to leave it.

This thread is about malware hosted by this site and these forums/subforums that this thread is posted on, and the owner thereof. @thiggins was alerted in post3 above during the initial discovery stage of my investigation. This thread never discussed nor does it pertain to any other site or site owner.

I advised everyone to leave it if the new owner can't keep malware off of it. Thanks for informing me who the owner is... you have my report.

@OzarkEdge Again, what "new owner" are you referring to?
I've heard back from my ad provider. I've opened a conversation passing along his request for information to help debug the problem. They employ, i.e. pay for, a special service to block malvertising.

I wrote my post because your post specifically quoted "Mr. SmallNetBuilder no more...", and also because you referred to "your website" - people tend to refer to forums as "these forums" rather than as a website. Just making sure everyone were discussing the same thing.

Some of the ads literally destroy the view on mobile devices.

This is an ad on top of the page...

...and it's going...

...and going...

20241205_231714000_iOS.png

...and this causes entire page shift to the right when scrolling down because there is no more auto screen alignment to something much larger than the screen itself. Not to mention the large empty space below the ad pushing the entire content down to the navigation bar.

@Tech9 Does this happen often? Which mobile platform and browser. Specific device, OS version and browser version would be helpful.

The example above is from an iPhone 14, iOS 18.1.1, Safari.

It happens quite often and I notice it when the page starts drifting around. This means an oversized ad is present somewhere on the page.

Thanks. I'll follow up. Should not be happening.
