New Around Here
I've tried every fw under the sun to get this thing working well enough to justify the $200 it costed. Unfortunately, I keep running into so many issues, most notably the random loss of internet capability (but not signal). In fact, it becomes impossible to even reach the firmware gui. I've tried all of ASUS' latest firmwares, merlin's, and dd-wrt. I've tinkered with every wireless setting to no avail. I have no radio interference and I'm in the same room as the router. Here's a couple things I've recorded during these periods:

Kinda bummed. :-/

Just to check , do you use at least cat5e ethernet cable for Wan and Lan ports ?
Have you tried to set the unit to factory settings and
cleared the nvram ?
You bought the router cheaper than me , I had to pay more than $300 for mine...

I'm using cat 6 for all lan connections. And I have cleared the nvram using the asus reset+power off/on screen(whatever that limited GUI is called) and for uploading new firmware. After the initial firmware change I do another factory settings reset.

I'm surprised I paid less considering it was from Best Buy, they're not exactly known for saving people money. Amazon also seems to be selling them for ~$200

Mine had problem with 354 fw. Is fine with 270 fw. Press and hold the button on the left for like 15 seconds and set it up again.

You need a cat 6 or 5e cable to connect the modem to the router's WAN port. I am assuming you only need cat 6 or 5e LAN connections only for gigabit LAN clients. Otherwise, you will experience problems exactly like that which you are reporting. Also any fw version 354 needs to have its NVRAM cleared and then must be manually reconfigured.

I am running Merlins f/w .27 Beta 1 without any such problems that you are having.
I bought mine here in Sweden and they really charged me nearly $350.
I did not want the bother to send it back and forth between countries.

Can you please elaborate on the Cat 6 suggestion for AC66 WAN to modem? Wondering because the cable provided by ASUS in the router box is Cat 5.
