Hello.
I have asus 87u and the latest Merlin's firmware: 380.64 (16-Dec-2016)
I connected my tv using 5GHz. It's Sony Bravia 60w855b. It supports media servers.
Next I enabled Media Server in the router and plugged in NTFS external 1tb drive.
Then my tv found the router in Media Servers menu, but when I selected it, the tv said: "Unable to get a content". I tried to connect by 2.4GHz but same result. It's the first problem.
Btw my iphone CAN connect to Media Server on the router and CAN see all the contents there.

The second problem is that Media Server works just half an hour or less. After that it's not available in the network until I reboot the router (for both tv and iphone).

I tried 3 firmwares (official asus, 380.63_2 and 380.64). On official one Media Server is not available at all, Merlin's ones have problems described above.

Does anyone have working Media Server on asus 87u? Could you please share with me your settings?

Works fine here to on 5Ghz with: SONY Bravia KDL-48W605B
I use "Manual Assignment" for DHCP

I have same settings.
Could you please clarify where is this setting?
LAN => DHCP server => Enable Manual Assignment => Manually Assigned IP around the DHCP list

I checked a log. The last record there before Media Server becomes unavailable is:
Dec 22 00:00:29 disk_monitor: Got SIGALRM...

There's a few threads which mention disabling IGMP Snooping helped with the media server not showing up. Try connecting via shell and using the command
Code:
echo 0 > /sys/class/net/br0/bridge/multicast_snooping
if that works you can add it to your init-start script.

No, it didn't help...

Also today have read all the forum. And tried the following:

In tools-other, do you have the miniupnp enable secure mode option set to yes? If so, try it as no and see if that helps. Assuming that you are serving those through your UMS as well.

- Run a chkdsk/fsck on the disk to check for errors
- Rule out a bad file that is hanging the minidlna scan by offloading the disk and only adding back a few files that you know are good (or attach a and set up a different disk and slowly add back your files).

  1. Copy all files from flash disk and re-format to ntfs.
  2. put 1 video
  3. do this:
    try making a
    /jffs/scripts/init-start
    script with the following lines

    #!/bin/sh
    # Turn off multicast snooping (required for minidlna advertisement)
    echo 0 > /sys/class/net/br0/bridge/multicast_snooping

  4. try
I fixed this by change the setting under Tools > Other Settings > DLNA: Rebuild entire database at start (default: No) to Yes. Worked like a charm on 380.59
  5. try
Forgot to mention that when I enabled the UPNP in the "wan settings" bubbleupnp server became visible in the bubbleupnp app for Android, but because I use OpenVPN I'm not secure about opening ports for UPNP, and how it works.
  6. try
What i did was change the TX Power and scale it down from 100% to 50% and this brought the coverage back to expected level and am not loosing the signal anymore.
  7. try
What I noticed was my channel was set to AUTO and when it changed channels it resulted in a disconnect. Setting it to a static value fixed the issue.

NOTHING. The both problems still present. Going to return this router to the shop...
