Merlin vs Adv. Tomato - Wireless

Hello everyone,

I recently changed to an Edge Router X for my main router and now use my AC68U(r) for wireless and as a network file server.

My concern is the wireless connection speed. I connect all my main devices (iPhone 7, Macbook Pro, iPad Pro 9.7) to my 5 Ghz A (which I believe is AC) wireless, but the connection speed seems to max at 54mbps.

Is the wireless on Asus-Merlin a better fit for what I am doing or will my current setup function the same with either build?

Any help is appreciated.

Tomato uses a pretty old wireless drivers so maybe it has something to do with that

Is there anyway to enable ONLY AC with Merlin? Or will it always use AC if no N devices are connected?

there isn't. It only supports N only, N/AC mixed and Legacy

With my 68U running Merlin it will use the fastest available speed...no need for AC only

Yeah, I updated, and it went from 54 Mbps to over 1000 Mbps initially, but it's been fluctuating (878 currently). So I'm liking the change already.
