I have a new setup with 2 AX58U Units. They are on 3004.388.5 Alpha build
Seems like its just at the edge of signal on the mesh (it shows weak in settings)
Anyone know if there are specific things to turn on or better channels to use?
Lots of settings I have never messed with before.
Anything to try before getting a new higher output router just for very light mesh use.
Routers on same level and tried moving around both.
They do connect but it drops off constantly.
Any settings that might help let me know:

Try channel 40 vs 149
Disable UNIVERSAL Beamforming
Try Disable MIMO

DTIM value 3 is good for Apple products

Okay thanks I am trying to get this while I am here.
Otherwise if I have to get a higher output unit while there on sale for BF.
I would normally just get a better main but the use on the mesh is going to be very light.
No apple devices at all.

  1. How far apart are the units?
  2. What is between them? Walls, furniture, ...
  3. You don't show 2.4 GHz network. How is that configured? Typically, wireless AiMesh node initially connects using 2.4 GHz, and then it transitions to 5 GHz if possible.
  4. Personally, I have always used Smart Connect successfully, but others disagree.
  5. Try installing latest Asus baseline firmware on AiMesh node (3.0.0.4.388_23925).

1. About 180 feet
2. One wall (nothing metal cement or anything).
3. Pictures added
5. Will test after changes from John if unsuccessful;

2.4GHz: Disable Universal Beamforming and try MIMO disabled

Universal Beamforming on both bands should be off always, no matter what.
The other is trial in your environment.

and from post #4 this: Try installing latest Asus baseline firmware on AiMesh node (3.0.0.4.388_23925).

Some swear by having same on both main and nodes and others find success on the node running Stock firmware.
When going to stock: factory default unit, AFTER the flash.

It will be hard, expensive, and more than likely impossible to get wireless backhaul AiMesh to work at a level worth using when the main and node are 180' apart. No matter what router models you use.

The RT-AX58Us though, are the worst of the AX class routers I've tried (never bought any since three years ago).

If your really need the maximum range possible, and the most stable routers, the RT-AX58Us need to go, IMO.

I am trying envision what could be 180' apart with only a single wall in between.

A nice backyard to an open garage port? :)

... which would introduce another issue since Asus routers are not waterproof.

Its a small shop that will not be using the internet for much.
The shop router is right in a window also so figured it would be okay.
I have a AX58U on my property that has 2 58U and now one AC68U in the shop.
The 68U is no kidding 360ft and it works great.
My shop mesh unit from Gmaps: *(that purple box near the line nothing is there)
