Methods of clearing settings of RT-N66U

Hi, I am a bit confused of clearing RT-N66U after firmware upgrade to the beta 3.0.0.4.354. So what is the difference of doing it by

1) pressing WPS button while powering up,
2) pressing reset button for 5 secs,
3) pressing Restore of Administration/Factory reset from WebGUI
4) clearing NVRAM in emergency mode (holding reset button while powering up)?

What would be the best way to do it?

I was asking this myself and i found the following answer from merlin in another post: There seems to be NO difference!

Upgrading from 32K to 64K will clear out your existing settings.

Otherwise, there are many ways to clear nvram:

• Turn the router on with the WPS button pressed
• Use the option to revert to factory defaults on the webui
• (ADVANCED USERS ONLY) do an mtd-erase -d nvram
• Boot to recovery mode, and use the webui at 192.168.1.1 to clear out nvram

There's another one involving the reset button, but I never used it so I don't remember the exact procedure in this case.

As for your performance issues, you are running a really old firmware version. The jump to a newer version might help you there.

Back when I first used it, I didn't find the "reset" button to be a reliable way of erasing nvram. In fact, when I was having a problem, Asus support told me to use the manual "mtd-erase -d nvram" via telnet to erase the nvram, which solved my problem and has been reliable for me since.

I haven't used the WPS button method, but apparently it works as well. Also haven't used the "restore to factory defaults" method in the GUI (under "Administration" -> "Restore/Save/Upload Setting"). But these apparently work as well, from other's reports.
