migrating from asus RT-AC66U to ???

So since Merlin has dropped support to this router and the VPNFilter malware kinda scares me, i decided to ask asusmerlin users for their opinion to what router i should migrate to. After a bit (couple of days) of research I've got two models in mind:

• asus RT-AC 66U_B1 amazon
  
• asus RT-AC 68U amazon
• asus RT-AC1900

I'm looking a router that is fairly similar to mine ac66u in the price and perfomance and that has the longest support (meaning the device being has a release date >2016)

though here it is quite pricey. 250 euros for it. Too much for me so I chose the R7800

The best deal would be the AC66U_B1 as it is the same as the AC68U and often for less money. It is @RMerlin choice for a deal. That being said the above posts mentioning the AC86U are spot on as it is the new flagship of the fleet, but often a lot of money.

that's a great insight i didn't know that @RMerlin did suggest the ac66U_B1.

The 86U is the most capable and strongest device available from Asus for the price. The 66U_B1 is the best value available right now. The 66U_B1 is the closest model to the one you have now.

Using ac66U_B1 right now, and got another one refurbished for less than half the price on newegg from last sale.
