Hello all, I have been lurking here the past couple of years. Lots of good information. I have also been using Merlin’s builds for some time (Thank You Merlin!).
Recently we cut the cord on Comcast cable. Now were using Roku devices (3) with Netflix.
I’m interested in setting up a Media Server. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router (latest Merlin FW) and a 2 TB USB drive I can donate to the project. Plenty of space for our sparse video collection.
Looking around here and the web, I think (?) I see two different methods of using minidlna. One method makes use of the built in functions in Merlin’s Firmware. A second method makes use of installing Entware and a standalone minidlna from what I can tell.
Is one method better than the other? Perhaps, less issues down the road or ease of maintenance, updating etc?
Can someone post a link to what they feel are the most robust set of instructions for getting a media server up and running.
Thank You in advance,
Bob
