I have a new Asus AC5300 and I installed Merlin 380.63.2 firmware and all is good.

I have setup wireless using Smart Connect as it seems like a nice feature but still testing it out. So far so good.

I took my old router a Linksys WRT1900AC Version 2 and using the latest stock firmware converted it into a wireless repeater using 2.4 GHz.

When I converted the linksys, it connected to the Asus primary router and obtained an IP address of 192.168.1.78. I was able to remote into the Linksys from that IP address with no issues.

I also went into the Asus and set the IP of the linksys manually so it would maintain its .78 IP address.

I thought all would be good.

A short time later, I went to the 192.168.1.78 IP address and the linksys web page can not be found. I check my ASUS and now the .78 is missing from the active client list in the network map.

What I noticed is a device continues to change IP address every few minutes as I watch the network map. The device also changes names, such as from iPhone to iPad to XBox One, etc. I also noticed there is a small number in the upper right corner of the icon on the network map and when I mouse over it, the asus network map says this is how many devices are connected through this device.

What I have determined is this is my Linksys router and it appears to be changing the client name and IP address every few minutes of all the different devices that are connecting to the Linksys.

The linksys seems to be functioning ok. My XBox gets internet connectivity. My iphone sometimes when connected to the linksys says there is no internet connection but then a few seconds later it works fine. The signal strength is very good between the ASUS and Linksys.

My question is why doesnt the Linksys Router with the .78 IP address show up in the network map and why cant I access it through the web browser any longer?

Why doesnt the network map show each client, even if its connected to the Linksys, its getting is IP from the ASUS DHCP Server but it seems to be bunching them all under the linsys device but showing a different client and IP every few minutes.

Could this behavior be caused by the smart connect?

Could this be a bug?

Why cant I connect to the linksys and any suggestions on how to resolve that?

thanks in advance.

I have same little bug but on a Rt-AC68U running 380.63_2. On the client list it only shows one of my two cameras. The icon next to to the item in client list listed as my camera also has a tiny 2 sort of upper right. When you hover over it the bubble sas 2 clients are connecting to Rt-AC68U through this device. I'm not sure how to interpret this informain and what it implies. I'm the second person I think to have reported it. Is it a bug or a new feature gone wrong?

You made sure that the DHCP server in the Linksys is disabled right?

Almost sounds like it's still running, and if devices are ping-ponging across two to three different SSID's, one might see unusual activity here... Many devices, when they detect that they've associated with a different SSID, initial the DHCP handshake again...
