Modem question

I am finally switching internet companies. I am needing a cable modem and they say it needs to be a Docsis 3. There are so many out there. Does the cable modem make a difference? I have never used one before so I'm kind of new to the cable modem stuff. Thanks.

they should have a list of acceptable models for you to choose from. If you don't have any particular needs, go with one of those.
First decision - Do you need it to be a combo unit - including a router as well as the modem ?
If not, find a compatible one from their list and use your existing router.

They don't have a list. I called them about that, and they said all it needs to be is a Docsis 3.
