I want to replace my DS412+ with a new DS918+with new disks. I want to switch from ext4 to BTRFS. I want to duplicate my data, encryption keys, backup tasks, other scheduled tasks. In the end, I want the new NAS to have the name of the one I'm replacing and the same two IP addresses.

I haven't yet found the details I'm seeking.

Here is what I think I'm doing:
*Set up new NAS, named NAS2 with a temp IP, creating one admin account that matches the old NAS.
*Install the same apps as on old NAS
*Run config backup on NAS, then restore that to NAS2.

I'm then wondering if I should rsync the data shares or use HyperBackup? If the latter, do I save the backup set to NAS2 share and restore to NAS2? Or backup to a share on NAS and restore over the network to NAS2?

At what point do I turn off the old NAS and rename NAS2 to NAS?

Sorry if this is very basic, but I want to avoid the time involved copying data multiple times due to setup mistakes!

Thanks!

Best to reach out to Synology and their pre-sales team - they'll know what to do...
