My AC3200 is slower then my AC87

New Around Here
Hello, I have a AC3200 and a AC87U. Both have Merlin 380.57 firmware. Both connected to the same fiber connection. Only difference is it's external IP. This way I can switch fairly fast between the two and run performance tests. During a period of maybe 3 minutes I ran 3 tests each and there is clearly a difference. The AC3200 is slower, and it's so much that I even noticed it. Is this really possible or is there something wrong with my equipment? I have done a factory reset on the 3200 but not on the AC87. I dont want to do it, since then it might become as slow as the AC3200 :-)

I tried installing the original firmware 3.0.0.4.378_9459 on the AC3200 but that didnt help. Same bad figures compared to the AC87

They should perform very similar under the same circunstances, they are identical HW wise, are you testing RT-AC87U on LAN1 (Realtek Switch) or LAN2,3 or 4 (Broadcom Switch)?

I had the AC87U on lan1. I moved the cable to lan3 but it's just as fast there. No difference at all actually.

Is QoS enabled? Make sure you use the same config on both routers.

Ok, so just to rule out any changes I did a factory reset on the AC87U as well. This means that they both have the exakt same settings, meaning none. Now the difference is even bigger.

The tests were made via cable not wireless, so smart connect doesnt change anything at all in here.

I have tried disabling smart connect. It's not on as default and the router was reset. I've been using cables and not wireless.

I'm thinking I just have to accept that the AC3200 is slow and use it as an accesspoint instead of a router since if I put the router in AP mode and put a cable in it, I get good speeds. It wasnt exactly what I had in mind though.

Thats really weird, have you tested different FW versions? Same results?

You could give a try at Tomato FW and check the speeds over ASUSWRT, it should be an interesting compare.

Yes, I have tried merlins latest and asus latest. I have also tried 2 versions older of the original asus firmware with no difference.
