I have a Synology NAS at home that works...most of the time. Unfortunately, it must have dropped off the network while I was traveling to another state and I can't access it. I can ping my router successfully, but that's it. Of course, I'm planning to be gone for a few weeks, so this is extremely annoying.

I have Charter as an ISP, a Linksys router, and a DS213+ NAS. When this dropped connection happens while I'm home, I power cycle the router and modem and all is well. So, my question is: What is going on and how do I get a long-term fix for the router and modem "not talking" with each other, if that is what's going on?

Which services are you trying to remotely access on the Synology? Does the Synology have a static IP or DHCP?

Could it be that your ISP changed your router's IP address and it took time for the change to propagate to the DNSes and you?

Else I dunno. My DS212 has run for a long time with no 'drops'.

It could also be that your DSL/Cable modem lost lock for a while. This would show in the log.
