Solved Mysterious Clients

SteveR

New Around Here
My router is an Asus RT-AC3100. Recently we've added a lot of devices to our home network. Two new wireless clients have appeared. One is: audiocast the other is: espressif. I've been wondering what their source is. (smartphones apps?) I did spend some time looking at audiocast but didn't find anything. The Asus router seem unaffected by these unknown wireless clients. I just blocked these clients from accessing the internet. See if anything happens. Anyway to figure-out the source of these wireless clients?

Turn off all of your IOT devices and add them back one at a time until those names show up.

Already tried that with audiocast. Could not discern any underlying program (app).
Good news with espressif. I recently bought an internet radio. It stopped working when I blocked espressif from accessing internet right after my first post. Internet radio back to working now.

Some progress with audiocast. Installed Nmap from the Linux Mint repository. Results below. Evidently LG Innotek is an LG product. We do have an LG TV which we have had for years before audiocast showed-up.
Nmap scan report for audiocast.Stargate (192.168.50.177)
Host is up (0.058s latency).
MAC Address: DC:03:98:7F:B8:AE (LG Innotek)
The article below is crap, but haven't found a better one.

Will still periodically continue to look into this.

The origin of audiocast as a device on the router is the LG SP8YA 3.1.2CH Sound Bar.

Today I took a more aggressive step. I physically turned-off (power strip) the power to the TV, soundbar, and Roku. By physically turning off the power to TV, soundbar, and Roku; audiocast disappeared from the client list on the router. When I turned on the TV, but not the soundbar, audiocast did not come back. When I turned on the soundbar by itself, audiocast did comeback. When I unplugged the soundbar, audiocast once again disappeared.
