Hi all,

I recently started to use my N66U in repeater mode with RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374.35_4-sdk5 but i'm getting low wireless speeds (~39 Mbps - I have a 100 Mbps fiber connection). Is there a firmware that is more suitable to use in repeater mode?

Thanks

That may be the limit for your environment in Repeater mode, regardless of the firmware used. Repeater mode automatically means 1/2 of your expected speed (in optimum conditions).

I have 2 N66R's in repeater mode. Merlin 41 build tx power at 100 for 2.4 and 5. This is on a 50/5 connection. Iphone 5s and Ipad 4 says 42.64 down and 6.28 up on Speedtest .net. Link rate stays at 243 Mbps. I use the 5 GHz band for the link and channel 48 seems to be the best. Also helped to put both routers on the included stands.

Thanks, guys!

I have just one more question: Is there any problem on using the same SSID on both routers?

Regards.

I use different SSIDs. Main router has a different SSID for 2.4 and 5. Router in repeater mode uses two totally different SSIDs than main router and different for 2.4 and 5. I want to know which router I'm using.
Desktop wired to router in repeater mode runs 56.96 down and 6.23 up. Wireless devices using router in repeater mode run 42.64 down and 6.28 up. Not a big speed difference.
Couple of tips I found:
-On the repeater mode router under LAN I changed the name to RT-N66R-2 on the Device Name. I noticed some errors in the log when both routers had the same name.
-To pick the best channel for the connection between the two routers I went to System Log then Wireless Log on the repeater mode router. I watched the RSSI and noise levels. Channel 48 had the lowest RSSI number -70 and noise is -87. All the other channels were worse especially the high channels 153 and 157.
