N66U in router mode on FIOS?

I'm having some difficulty getting my N66U with the latest Merlin firmware working in router mode on FIOS.

I'm able to get it working fine in Access Point mode by just turning the wifi off on the Verizon Actiontech router and setting the N66U to a different IP. But I'd like to use a VPN, and the VPN option seems to become unavailable in Access Point mode.

I still need to use the Actiontech for the TV DVR and TV guide.

Are there any step-by-step guides that will walk me through what I need to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there are a few scenarios which may work, but I need some clarification. For starter - how your Actiontech connected to the ONT box? Is it connected via Ethernet cable or coaxial cable?

Add Asus router to DMZ in FiOS router, then configure Asus router for VPN. Keep Asus router in its default setting, don't change it to AP.

My point is that if the FiOS router connected to the ONT via Ethernet cable you can put it behaind your own router, but if it is connected via Coaxial cable then the best way is what you suggested.

On my first attempt at setting the routers up, I was trying to put the Actiontech in the DMZ, but for the life of me couldn't figure out how to do so in the Actiontech firmware -- it's horrible.

I used to have Verizon FiOS before moving. A quick search on Google pointed me here:

You can simply disable the firewall in the Asus router and let Actiontech do all the work. This way Asus router would act as AP but with all the functions of a router.

The Actiontec can be put in MoCA bridge mode to have the DVR on the network through coax with the N66U as your main router. DVR/Guide will work this way, but Remote DVR and CallerID on TV will not without duplicating the port forwarding and DVR IP assignments from the Actiontec. Or the Actiontec can be put in a DMZ behind the N66U. There are many advantages to either of these configurations, most notably

a) The ActionTec has a ridiculously small NAT table to be used as a primary router. Steam games will crash older revisions of it.
b) MoCA adds 4ms latency. Why increase your internet latency if you don't have to?
