NAS Drive in Windows Explorer - Remotely

Kozinski

New Around Here
Hi all,

Currently working of an LG N1T1 NAS Drive in the house and wish to access it in the office (remotely) through windows explorer.

I can connect to the drive fine through a browser and use the on board file viewer, but it is cumbersome - is there a way that I can explore the drive using windows explorer - i.e. as if it was just another drive on my machine?

Using Windows XP in the office.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried adding a new network place using the DDNS address, but doesnt seem to work! Help! Please!

I have that option in my NSA325 seems to work so far. I see your using LG NAS 800MHz 1GB of RAM. What are the options do you see for UI Admin for that NAS.

Do you a link to the manual for this NAS?

You should be able to just map it as a network drive.

Off the top of my head:
- Open an new Explorer window
- Under Tools there should be an option to "Map Network Drive"
- Select the Drive (X:) you want to map it to
- Enter the IP address of the NAS
- Enter credentials if needed

Hopefully that will work.

Not familiar with the LG, but any decent NAS would permit you to declare folders as CIFS/SMB shares. Then any Windows or Linux PC on the home LAN can access it. But it's a bit complicated... have to use the correct "WORKGROUP" name on the NAS and PCs, have to enable workgroup sharing on the PCs, etc. First, get PC #1 to share-out a folder to PC#2, independent of the NAS. Then get the NAS to share out.

The user guide or software wizard in the NAS should walk you through this.

When this is working, you can move on to accessing via the Internet.. which is more complicated due to security and port number mapping, etc.
This invovles setting up your router properly - and the NAS. Again, the user guides in the NAS should tell you how.

We'll help.

The LG NAS should have feature to remote into the system via Web UI or some now support Android App to manage your NAS or remote into it. I'll look in the LG and see where he needs to be.. If there was a online manual or something to show what he's seeing would help?

What I can find in your manual your limited to some options but you should be able to remote into NS from another locations. Does your Office allow you for remote connections outside their firewall?

Thanks for your help guys! Not quite got it up and running yet - but looks like Remote network Drive is the way to go.

Had to update my firmware for the drive as I still had the old UI - thanks a lot peeps!

You should experience 20 to 60 mBytes/s for large files. For numerous small files, expect much less.
