Ideal requirements;
a) NAS that can easily connect with a mac & various window operating systems
b) disks can be formatted to handle 8 GB files
c) fast enough to stream hd video files without stuttering
d) under $200 if possible - diskless
e) has a minimum of 2 bays

I just bought a D-Link DNS-321 storage device and it seems to play nice with my different operating systems but transfer rates are a bit slow and my mac now has to buffer for a bit when flipping through large movies. I know very little about networking so feel free to dumb it down for me ;)

Apple Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual-Band (MC340LL/A)
DNS-321 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Western Digital 1.5TB Caviar Green
Samsung Spinpoint T166 500GB
Computers connected via cat6 when handling large files

Acer Aspire 1410 - 64bit windows 7 home premium - U2300 1.2GHz processor with 2 gigs of ram
Desktop - Asus A8N-SLI MB running Vista Home Premium - AMD dual core 3200? - 2 gigs of ram
Apple MC238LL/A Mac Mini Desktop, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz, 2GB DDR3, 10.6 Snow Leopard
Thinkpad R61 running XP Pro - dual core 1.8cpu with 2 gigs of ram

I was thinking about switching to Synology DS210j based on the comparison chart but also read reviews where others were getting similar rates that I currently have my D-link. When either of my current network drives is connected via usb2.0 to my mac lag time is minimal but through my network I get roughly 7-8 meg write rates and moving files from one drive to the other in the NAS about 2 megs second. Should I buy the Synology? Something else?

Many thanks
