NAS Upgrade advice

Breddo

New Around Here
Hi,

I've outgrown my old WD Sharespace and I've decided its time to upgrade. I haven't been happy with the performance of the WD so thats a key factor in my replacement NAS but from what I've seen it won't be hard to outperform the WD.

I'm also looking for a robust unit that has plenty of upgrade options and good build quality so it will last me a long time into the future (min 5 years). Minimum storage is 8Tb which is double what I have now so should give me plenty of growing room. I'm also looking at devices with multiple LAN ports that support link aggregation and iSCSI as I play with several VM's and would like them hosted off the NAS. For those purposes I'm considering putting a couple of SSDs in the NAS also but have seen mixed feedback on that so any comments would be great.

I'm also considering having a couple of bays spare to allow for future growth or using them to house hot spare drives. An option for an expansion chassis might also solve that.

The devices I'm considering are the Synology DS1813+ or from QNAP the TA-869 Pro or TS-669 Pro

There may be others out there so I'll take recommendations for other devices to look at or help in narrowing down the one to buy.

Thanks

Yeah at this point I'm thinking they are pretty even in terms of functionality and it may just come down to price.

Any comments on the specific models?
