I know next to nothing about NAS, but I need to consolodate all my storage and plan to improve access to it through my Netgear WNDR3700 wireless router.

To have a reasonable amount of storage for all my files as well as redindancy in case a drive fails, the two bay NAS's are out. While my current needs are fairly basic, I prefer to overbuy and "grow" into my equipment as opposed to regretting not spending a few extra bucks down the road.

I really like what I've heard about Synology, and am leaning toward them. The new 411+ looks interesting but it seemd short on features. For a bit more I could go for the 1010+ but that seems like overkill for my needs.

Any recommendations? Also, please include recommendations for hard drives with whatever NAS you mention, as I understand there are a lot of compatability issues out there that are making my head spin. Thanks!

Which features do you think it's short on?

I can only assume you are talking about hardware features like removable drive trays etc, because the software features are the same on all models
