Need Quick and Simple NAS

I am a long time Microsoft user. (feels like an AA meeting). I need a step by step to configure Ubuntu 10.04 Server to be used as a media file server for Windows and Linux. Something that can be comprehended by those of us with normal size brains. All help is greatly appreciated.
