I have owned a Buffalo linkstation 120 for several years and the thing has been rock solid for me, but it is starting to show some age with limited speed and potential drive failure.
Here are the features I loved:
- Low power consumption ~20 Watts
- Hackable with a lite installation of Debian and community support
- Very inexpensive
Are there any newer NAS devices that offer similar options but with faster disk and network i/o? Streaming video is a borderline problem with my current older NAS. I also run a web based torrent/wget/usenet application (torrentflux) that I would also like to keep unless the vendor's stock applications offer something similar. If not then support from an active modding community is important.
Not concerned with data redundancy at this point, and would only consider multiple drives if the extra capacity and performance was enough to offset the higher price.
Thanks for everyone's time on this.
