Netgear GS308e web interface only works on default VLAN

Occasional Visitor
Good afternoon,
I have two managed switches on my one-armed router network, a Netgear GS305e (5 port), and a GS305e (8 port). I have created an Admin VLAN (10), which is one of four VLANS trunked from my Edgerouter X to switch port 1 on each of my Netgear switches. The switch uplink ports on the Edgerouter are each identically configured with a blank PVID, and VID set to 10,20,30,40.

On my GS305e, I can give the web admin interface a static IP in the Admin VLAN subnet (10.2.1.0/24), and I can access it from a laptop which is connected to the Admin VLAN. My GS308e, when configured the same way, becomes unreachable. The switch port configurations are below, any suggestions on what could be going wrong with the GS308e?

Thanks!
-Mark

They're not configured the same - see port 2 on the 305e vs. the 308e

Sorry, I meant a GS308e (8 port)

I probably should have mentioned that. Yes, port 2 on the GS305e is connected to one of my Ubuiquiti APs, so it also trunks all of my VLANs. This was done to take advantage of existing cabling, my other 2 Ubiquiti APs are connected directly to the Edgerouter.

I may have found a clue. Both the gs305e and the gs308e are Netgear "Smart Managed" switches,
and one contributor on this post ( ) claims that these switches can be managed only over an untagged port. As far as the gs308e is concerned, this does seem to be the case; I changed the Edgerouter port settings to PVID=10/VID=BLANK, and the gs308e management interface was immediately reachable.

What this does NOT explain is why I do not have the same issue with the gs305e, also a "Smart Managed" switch. I do see a slight difference in the firmware versions (V1.0.0.11 for the gs305e, V1.00.11EN for the gs308e). I'd love to hear if anyone else here has had a similar experience with these switches.
