Arris' new SURFboard SBG6950-AC2 and SBG7400-AC2 gateways combine modem, wireless router and switch technologies into a single package, while adding Arris' McAfee-based Secure Home Internet feature to secure home networks.

The Arris Secure Home Internet is app-based, and enables customers to disconnect select devices at a specific time or at a touch of a button, receive notifications of intruding devices, and set up user profiles for controlling access to the Internet, particularly for children.

Other feature include 16x4 DOCSIS channel bonding, download rates up to 686 Mbps, and maximum wireless link rates up to 1900 Mbps for the SURFboard SBG6950-AC2 and 24x8 DOCSIS channel bonding, download rates up to 1 Gbps, and maximum link rates up to 2350 Mbps for the SURFboard SBG7400-AC2. Each gateway model are MU-MIMO devices, have bandsteering, come with four GbE ports, and have one USB 2.0 port.

Both new Arris gateways are available now, with retail pricing for the SURFboard SBG6950-AC2 and SBG7400-AC2 at $179.99 and $199.99, respectively.

ISP gateways are bad. Anyone that uses them either doesn't know better or works for the ISP. Separate modem and router is always better.
