Asus Guest Network Pro router interacting over AiMesh with ASUS non-vlan node

Considering new ASUS AX88U Pro as front end router to existing GS-AX5400 move to node status. I will update with subsequent experience. The fallback is to put the AX5400 in WAN NAT mode behind a LAN port on the AX88U Pro.

I can only find side issues discussed but not this use case. I believe that by default the backhaul Ethernet will handle only one vlan/SSID combination per channel (WIFI frequency). Planning on dedicating 2.4G to IOT and 5G to Media Clients in AiMesh. Both the dedicated media server and the Homelab Promox/NAS server will be on VLAN controlled Ethernet ports on the main router. No smart switches in middle but might explore later. Further Guest or VPN SSID, etc will live in primary router as even the AX5400 range is pretty good. Redesign to be anticipated.

At this point it is not clear if and how well this will work especially VLAN isolation/bridging. Lessons learned from first hand experience is most welcome.

You should be able to get one guest WIFI to propagate to the AX5400 connected as an AiMesh node. Likely only one WIFI band, though, You will not be able to get a wired VLAN to the AiMesh node. It needs another "Pro" router as an AiMesh node to do VLAN on the node.

I am guessing that I could SSH to configure or script fancier arrangements with Linux networking like the Merlin documentation suggests. But I would have to be either really bored or fishing in waters best left alone with so much other to learn about Promox, Home Assistant, and Jellyfin, Tablo integration, etc
