Hi all,
i've got my cable internet connection connected into the 2nd floor of a 3 story townhouse, deliberately so to maximize the potential of a wireless router's range. i'm installing a media centre pc right next to the router, wired, and want to be able to serve music/movies to laptops/ipod that may be anywhere in the house with as much speed as possible. each floor is about 6-700 sq ft.
also, directly under the router on the 1st floor will be my home office desktop, for which it is important to have a good strong, fast connection. separated by plywood subfloor/hardwood floor boards.
current laptops (2) have g wireless cards, and i have a 3g ipod touch..may get an ipad in the future. future office desktop can have whatever nic works best.
i've looked into a number of different wireless routers, and i have favourable impressions of the Netgear WNDR3700 and Cisco E3000. but since most of my current network devices use the g standard, i wonder if it's not worthwhile to get one of these N routers. and adding an N-nic office desktop would decrease the performance over my network, right? would it be better to just get a good G router, or is that not even possible now. i dont' plan to replace these laptops for a while yet, so they will be g-enabled devices.
so many options, it's overwhelming. haha
