New Around Here
Hello,

I am new.

A few days ago I bought a TM-AC1900 and was able to change the firmware to Asuswrt-Merlin 380.69. I was primarily interested in the per client data usage feature. However, it seems I can get only a snapshot - data usage is showing as used traffic @34.73Mb this morning (so far) even though I've streamed some youtube and surfed the net. My previous router, a Netgear job, showed data changes every time I refreshed the GUI.

Is there a setting I need to change for the data usage to show in real time?

Thank you.

Hi and thanks for the quick replies!

Why not AM382? Good question. I wasn't sure if AM382 available through Asus and dated November 2017 was actually a newer version of Merlin (380.69 is dated December 2017). I was concerned they were two different things.

As for screenshot - it's in the traffic analyzer section and looks like it updates once per hour?

Don't confuse the Traffic Monitor with the Traffic Analyser. They are two different things with their own router pages and their own independent databases.

I have three teen kids. Some friend tells them about this gotta have game and that gotta have game, and the next thing you know we've used up tons of data in a single day of downloading. Since my ISP has instituted a 1TB data cap, my first goal is to monitor who is eating the data and why. If it's a legitimate download, that's one thing. If it's malware, that's something else.

What I was wanting was a combination of the two - real-time data monitoring on a per-client basis. I can get there on my phone using the Asus app, but I don't see the same with the PC.

I think Tools, Other Settings, Enable IPTraffic (per IP monitoring) is the setting you may be looking for; enable per IP monitoring and reboot the router.
