Hi,
I have ac68u installed and also have iptv device attached to it. Previously I experienced iptv stalling when bandwidth ran out of multiple clients. It happened infrequently so I was hesistant to solve the problem but now I get a time to review network configuration so I decided to give a shot on applying QoS setting on the router. Because I have no knowledge on the kind of bandwidth the iptv uses, I decided to use traditional QoS mode in a hope to ensure the setting to be simpler. I only need to make sure that 1) iptv will grab 10Mbit when in use and under competing situation, and 2) everything goes back when iptv turns off--10Mbit bandwidth is returned to the pool.
What I did was going to user-defined qos rules and 1) set source mac to iptv, 2) leaving out destination port blank, 3) choose any for protocol, 4) set transferred to "1250~"(in KB, I hope it really means kilobytes), and 5) give highest priority.
So far no problem has been noticed, I don't have problem watching tv, but that doesn't mean I was sure about what I've done. I looked up manual but QoS section on asus manual seem too short to explain enough. Could someone with knowledge clarify and confirm few things here for me?
Q1) can I leave destination port blank to mean "all port" or should I write something like "<65536" or ">0" instead?
Q2) what I want is that iptv, when plugged in and connected, can ensure 10Mbit(thus 1250KB) bandwidth. It may use less or no bandwidth at a time (playing from usb instead or so), then I want other clients to utilize that bandwidth. I also want the whole bandwidth to be available to the other clients when iptv is turned off.
Is "1250 / blank" setting on "Transferred" (displayed as "1250~") what I want? or is it "~1250"?
I tried to first write to asus support, but somehow their support email form is broken(gives me "undefined" on form submission) and their live chat was all unavailable. I'm happy to find this forum instead. Any help or comment appreciated.
* by the way I tried searching with qos but snb forum doesn't seem to like short keyword..is there known workaround? for me I just tried qos question instead.
